Speaking of Courage

This chapter is emotionnal to me because it showa what soldiers think about when they go home. Bowker must feel bad because he couldve did more for his friend and put his own life on the line for his fellow battlemate but instead he just let him go. Veterans to me sometimes put to much pressure on themsleves. Although Kiowa death was tragic we still have to look on the bright side of the things Bowker did accomplished wining 7 medals and serving his country.

  1. Do you then blame Bowker for Kiowa's death. Isn't this a little harsh. Yes, he says he let go, but remember the men are under fire, in the rain, in a shit field. I agree that veterans do probably put to much pressure on themselves to be "courageous" especially when the situations they are often in a chaotic.

Do you think the medals mean much to Bowker? Perhaps he would rather just have someone listen to his stories and his guilty feelings. Medals don't have ears.
